Richard N. Abbott Jr.

Originally from New England, Dr. Abbott taught at Appalachian from 1979 until his retirement at the end of 2014. Dr. Abbott's research interests are in the fields of crystallography, optical mineralogy, and igneous and metamorphic petrology. He has traveled, studied geology, and/or taught in Nigeria, Italy, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Nova Scotia. In 1995, he was a Fulbright teaching fellow at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. His current research involves metamorphic rocks in Jamaica and ultra high pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks in the Dominican Republic.
